A Community Based Wellness Program

Bull City Fit is a community-based wellness program located in Durham, NC that offers free evening and weekend activity sessions that encourage and promote active living. We partner with Durham Parks and Recreation to offer a safe and fun environment to put into practice the lifestyle modifications that are necessary to treat childhood obesity and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Duke Children's Healthy Lifestyles

The Duke Children's Healthy Lifestyles Program is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary childhood obesity treatment clinic located in Durham, NC. The Healthy Lifestyles Program is a family-based intervention for children with a body mass index (BMI) over the 95th percentile. The program's team of physicians, dietitians, physical therapists, and behavioral specialists uses treatment focused on lifestyle modification to address their patients' weight-related health problems.

Bull City Fit builds a commitment to wellness through through an encouraging, inclusive, and active environment that fosters friendships, encourages peer support, endorses individual accountability, promotes self-confidence, and demonstrates that anyone can achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Our goals

Bull City Fit empowers individuals and families to:

  • Increase knowledge and practice of physical activity and healthy eating 

  • Address current weight-related illness and prevent chronic disease through increased activity levels

  • Improve quality of life by promoting healthy behaviors 

  • Increase confidence, support positive change, and build a lifelong commitment to a healthy lifestyle

Our locations

Bull City Fit located at Edison Johnson Recreation Center is for children between the ages of 5-18 and their family members. At Bull City Fit , the whole family is encouraged to be active together!

Program Coorinator


Rachel is the Bull City Fit Program Coordinator! In her free time, Rachel likes to get her body moving any way she can, including rock climbing, lifting weights, and walking on local greenways. Ask Rachel about her favorite places she has explored outdoors! Rachel loves red beets and is always excited to try new, tasty foods! She loves working with BCF kids and families to find fun ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives!
