Our staff is passionate about working with our families as they pursue healthier lifestyles. Each member has extensive experience working with children in community-based settings, and many are fluent in Spanish, athletes, or planning careers in health, education, and public service.
Program Coordinator at Bull City Fit Family
Rachel is the Bull City Fit Family Program Coordinator! In her free time, Rachel likes to get her body moving any way she can, including rock climbing, lifting weights, and exploring walking trails. Ask Rachel about her favorite places she has explored outdoors! Rachel loves red beets and is always excited to try new, tasty foods! She loves working with BCF kids and families to find fun ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives!
Program Coordinator at Bull City Fit Teens
Emily is the Bull City Fit Teens Program Coordinator! She grew up in Chapel Hill and recently moved to Durham. In her free time she enjoys playing soccer, running, hiking, and getting outside in any way she can. Her favorite vegetable is asparagus but more importantly, Emily loves trying new foods as long as they are not too spicy! You should ask her about the weirdest food she’s eaten. She coordinates the Bull City Fit Teens program at W.D. Hill Recreation Center and is excited to get to know kids and families from all over Durham!
Faith Newsome is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill studying psychology and journalism. Faith has a passion for being active with others and living a healthy lifestyle! In her free time, she enjoys reading, trying new workouts and spending time with friends and family. Last summer, she began volunteering with Bull City Fit and fell in love with the program and enjoyed getting to know all the patients and families who participate. She is excited to serve as a staff member for the summer of 2019 and be more involved with all BCF has to offer!
Michael is a senior at Duke University studying environmental chemistry. He was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, but grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Beginning his fitness journey as a runner, Michael picked up swimming and cycling during his time in college. He is a certified indoor cycling instructor and hopes to bring indoor cycling and cross training to Bull City Fit!
Richard is a senior at Duke University studying Neuroscience and Chemistry. He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. In his free time Richard enjoys watching movies with friends and exploring restaurants in Durham. A couple summers ago, he began working with Bull City Fit and is excited to return to share his passion for soccer and living a healthy lifestyle.
Cassidy is a sophomore from New Jersey studying Public Policy and Women and Genders’ studies at Duke University. Cassidy is new to BCF and is excited to share her passion for fitness with its participants. Cassidy loves weight lifting, interval training, and finding new ways to work up a sweat! Cassidy is also a big foodie with a special place in her heart for salmon sashimi. She is exciting to meet all the kid and families at BCF!
Kyle is coming back for his second year working with Bull City Fit and is also entering his second year as a graduate student at Duke studying Religion and Theology. He used to never want to run but now he loves it and has run multiple half-marathons, including one this past summer! Other than running, Kyle loves playing soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and practically any sport where he gets to run around and have fun. Kyle has never met a food he won't try, especially if it's super spicy, but especially likes trying food from other countries (He's currently looking for the best authentic Mexican street tacos if you have any suggestions). He's super excited to be back at Bull City Fit and can't wait to hang out with y'all and have some fun!
Lauren ("Lo") Aprahamian,
Lauren (or “Lo”) is currently studying Nutritional Therapy and will be graduating in the fall. Lauren is extremely passionate about all things related to health and wellness – especially green smoothies! Excited to be joining the BCF team this year, she hopes to help others find the confidence to make healthy choices and feel empowered to live their best lives. Outside of creating fun recipes in the kitchen, Lauren enjoys surfing, swimming, hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband and puppy.
Pablo is a senior at Duke University. He was born in Venezuela, but has spent his later childhood in Boise, Idaho. He is currently studying biology in hopes of getting into the field of medicine. Whenever he is free from studies, he loves hiking, going to the gym, snowboarding, playing piano, Spanish guitar, and cooking. He still does not know exactly what he will do with his future but would love to be able to practice medicine. He is looking forward to sharing his love of fitness with everyone in the program as he returns for his third year as a staff member!
Craig is a junior at Duke University studying Biomedical Engineering with plans of attending medical school after college. He loves to explore the surrounding area of Durham and the great hiking opportunities of North Carolina, especially Asheville. Besides hiking, he loves to play basketball and most organized sports. He loved being a part of the Bull City Fit family last year and is excited for his second year!
Shank Vege is from Naperville, Illinois. He plans on majoring in either Neuroscience, Computer Science, or Chemistry while on the Pre-med track. He has done basketball, football, and track and absolutely loves any sport he can get his hands onto. He also loves to dance and wants to incorporate that into his BCF experience. He cannot wait to be a part of Bull City Fit!
Julia is a sophomore at Duke University studying Economics and Spanish. She grew up in Palo Alto, California, but was born in Durham! She is a coxswain for the Duke Men's Rowing team, and likes to stay healthy by doing yoga and Pilates. In her free time, Julia loves cooking, singing with her a cappella group, and going to the beach. She is super excited to bring her love of fitness to Bull City Fit!
Abi is a nursing student at Duke School of Nursing and grew up in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. In high school and college she enjoyed cross country and track, where her excitement for fitness and health grew over time. Her all time favorite vegetable is carrots, but loves to eat all kinds of foods from around the world! In addition to running, she enjoys reading, music, and cooking in her free time! She started working with BCF as a volunteer in Summer 2019 and is so excited to get to know the BCF patients and families better this fall!
Graham is a senior at Duke studying biology. Born in Norfolk, VA, Graham grew up in Chappaqua, NY. He was a competitive swimmer in high school, and still swims, runs, and lifts weights whenever he can. He also enjoys playing piano, guitar, and saxophone! When it comes to food, he loves seafood, pasta, milk, and anything spicy. His favorite vegetable is celery, and his go-to fruit is a banana. A volunteer in the summer of 2019, Graham is excited to be more involved as a staff member this fall at Bull City Fit!
