Honoring the Earth with Plant - Based Meals

We recently celebrated Earth Day 2021. On this day, we joined with others from around the world as we promised to do our part to care for our planet. For some this meant vowing to replace single use plastic water bottles with reusable ones. Others participated in community wide efforts to pick up litter or to plant trees.

A good way to continue celebrating Earth Day all year long is to commit to having more plant -based meals. Eating plant-based protein instead of meat at least one time per week is an important way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change and the depletion of natural resources like land and water.


Eating more plant- based meals is not only good for the earth, but also for those of us who live here. Research supports plant- based meals as a way to reduce risk for heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer. Saving money is an unexpected benefit for eating plant-based meals. Beans, lentils, tofu and quinoa are examples of low cost plant- based meals that cost WAY less than meat.
