Week 10: Water Games

Who is ready for a long weekend? This upcoming Monday is Memorial Day, a United States holiday that honors those who have died during military service.

Many families traditionally celebrated Memorial Day with a trip to the pool or beach. In order to limit exposure and to continue practicing physical distancing, we have put together some ideas of how you can bring the water to you with some with some outdoor games! For most of these games, all you need is a bucket and some cups!

1. Shark Bite

The person who is “it” is the shark. The shark chases other players with a cup of water. The shark tags players by throwing water on them. Make sure to mark off the playing area and place a bucket of water in the center for their shark to refill their cup!

2. Sponge Relay

For this relay game, place a large bucket about 20 feet away from the start. Place a smaller bucket at the start. The first player will start with a sponge in their hand. Have each player run to the bucket and fill up the sponge to the max! They must run back to the start with the sponge over their head before squeezing out all the water into the small bucket, then passing it off to their next teammate. The first team to fill up their small bucket using the sponge wins!

This game can also be played for time. Can you beat your personal best?

3. Sponge Baseball

Place a bucket of water by the pitcher. Use a sponge and tennis racket for this special version of baseball for a refreshing mist when batting!
