Week 55: North Carolina State Parks in Your Backyard!

The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation strives to "inspire all its citizens and visitors through conservation, recreation and education". North Carolina has over 40 state parks stretching from the coast to the mountains. There are state parks in the Durham area with loads of trails!


1. Eno River State Park

6101 Cole Mill Road, Durham, NC 27705


This state park is located just 10 miles from downtown Durham. Named for the river that flows through the center of the park, you can see bird and turtles as you walk along the waters.








2. Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area

625 Virginia Cates Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278

This park has winding trails with mountain laurel and rhododendron. The loop trails feature a beautiful overlook and is the highest point in Orange County.
